Special Rain Tracker Installation Notes for this vehicle:
Write the wire colors of the vehicle on the HSS drawing, and follow that
when you wire up the Rain Tracker. Use the factory drawing as a reference
to help you find the wires. Some models and years may vary slightly in wire colors.
Factory drawings can be wrong, so, confirm wire colors with a multimeter.
The FAST and SLOW wiper system wires are available at the wiper switch. They
can usually be accessed by removing one or two access panels (Kick Panels) and,
possibly, the shrouds surrounding the steering column. Locate +12V and GND.
FIND +12V
For Rain Tracker power (+12V), locate a source of power hot in accessory
or run. Power source should be min. 12-16ga. wire on a 15-25A circuit. This
can be one of the +12V sources as shown on the diagram, or some other accessory
source. The cigarette lighter is often a good +12V source.
FIND CHASSIS GROUND
Find a suitable screw or bolt on the metal chassis of the vehicle to use as the
Rain Tracker ground. Scrape away paint as needed for a good connection.
Use a multi-meter to verify that the ground connection is at most a few ohms.
The cigarette lighter can also be a good alternate for ground and/or power.
This vehicle is wiper system class GM-SWM. The intermittent wipe controller is built
into the wiper motor cover, in a motor/controller combination. The Rain Tracker is
installed between the wiper control switch and the motor/controller.
The Rain Tracker Model RT-50A can sense through windshields with thicknesses between
0.12" and 0.47".
Some large RVs with large single-piece windshields may have windshields thicker than
1/4 inch. These windshields are too thick for the Rain Tracker model RT-50. If
there is a center post or mullion in the windshield, then the windshield is probably
compatible with the Rain Tracker. RVs based on truck chassis (class C motorhomes)
have compatible windshields. The RT-50A and RT-40A are compatible with thick glass
windshields, making them perfect for RV applications.
